THE OMEGA PROJECT – Bibles for Jewish households in Russia
Our MediaServe team in Russia continues reaching Jewish households with the offer of a free Bible. The response rate varies, but in the last two months we have received 1689 requests! Letters from grateful recipients tell it all:
– I’m still surprised how you got my address and why you show me such favour. I hope that by reading the book I will be enriched with the knowledge of God.
– I am very happy to receive the book, “Holy Scriptures”. I will read this book to all. You are doing a great job restoring the culture and history of the Jewish people. And from someone on the remote island of Sakhalin in Far East Russia:
– Thank you so much for the book, “Holy Scriptures”. This book is from God. When I have time, I always read it. It is easier to live with such a book.
This project has been a year and a half in the making. In the beginning, we were just responding to a known need for Bibles in the Amharic language. Then, last December, everything changed. Within weeks of deciding to do a special edition for Ethiopian Jews – with the same cover and supplementary material as our Russian “Jewish” Bible – we added another distinctive edition for new believers from Muslim background.
Now, 49,000 full Bibles are on their way to Ethiopia, and 8,000 of the “Jewish” edition to Israel. Workers in both countries are thrilled!
